We are excited to welcome a handful of new employees and interns to several of our departments. You are more than likely to interact with them, so we thought we’d give you a proper introduction! We had a chance to ask them a few questions about themselves and their work at LUNA.

My job is to ensure a smooth connection between clients and interpreters to lessen the language barrier in the community for people who are not skilled in the English language.
What places have you called home?

Why did you choose to work with LUNA?
When I moved to the U.S., I was able to comfortably navigate myself around because of my ability to speak English. There are other Latinos who did not share the same journey. It is a special feeling to be able to help the community in providing such a useful tool as an interpreter and language coordinator.

As a researcher and legal advisor on human rights for community projects of different international organizations, such as the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the IOM and others, I’ve had the honor to work with multidisciplinary teams and provide services to multicultural populations. Interacting with people from all over the world with different backgrounds has turned my way of thinking and communications skills into more effective and comprehensive ones. I believe empathy, adaptability, hard work and inclusion are values that we absolutely need to bring to every task we do in our job and I am excited to bring those to every task I do at LUNA.
Why did you choose to work with LUNA?
I chose to work with LUNA because of its commitment to Community and Diversity. I can see firsthand that LUNA is not just a company that provides language services, but it is a company that promotes language access for all, it promotes and creates opportunities for communities and organizations to become culturally rich, which is why I could not be happier about being a Language Access Fellow.
