American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting

American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting Services

Confidence in coverage.

Communicating clearly with the Deaf or hard of hearing community requires a skilled ASL interpreting service. LUNA’s team of Certified Interpreters (both state and nationally certified) have been providing ASL interpreting services across Indiana and beyond for more than 10 years. LUNA is one of the largest ASL interpreting agencies in Indiana and acts as the coordinating unit for all state government ASL interpreting needs.

With an expansive team of highly qualified and experienced interpreters, we’re always available to meet your needs and can customize our services to meet your specific requirements. Whether communicating with stakeholders such as students or patients, or bridging language gaps at community gatherings or large-scale conferences, we pride ourselves on providing our clients with the most highly qualified interpreters.

But it’s more than just a service for us. We value our role as advocates and allies for the Deaf and hard of hearing communities. LUNA works hard to foster close relationships within the Deaf community. This includes partnerships with the Indiana School for the Deaf and the Indiana Association of the Deaf. We invest in these partnerships so that we approach our services with a sense of collaboration with the Deaf community rather than with one of audsim or oppression.

What We Offer

We provide qualified interpreters for on-site ASL interpreting services across the state of Indiana, including Certified Deaf Interpreters (CDIs) when and where appropriate. We are also capable of fulfilling out-of-state appointments when needed, either on-site or via video remote interpreting (VRI). Our ASL Department can provide:

  • Tactile interpreting services
  • Manual forms of English
  • Oral interpreting
  • Real-time captioning and Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART) services
  • Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)
  • ASL Video Translation

If you have questions or wish to schedule an appointment, please contact us at 317.341.4137 or info@luna360.com. When contacting us via email, you will receive an immediate confirmation response. A LUNA Coordinator will then reply directly within 24 hours or less, depending on the urgency of the interpreting request.

Lauded Leadership

Our Director of American Sign Language Services and Education, Ms. Rebecca Buchan, MA, CI, CT, IIC, is a leader in the field with over two decades of experience interpreting, training, teaching, and mentoring. She holds the nation’s highest national certification for ASL Interpreters and was one of the first court qualified ASL interpreters in Indiana.

Rebecca has committed herself to improving the quality of ASL interpreting through the development of the Pathways to Certification Program, LUNA’s unique mentoring program for new interpreters. She also runs the state’s only Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Test Site, located at LUNA’s central office. Rebecca is a member of Indiana’s Board of Interpreting Standards, the Board for Silent Blessings Deaf Ministry, and the Stakeholder Task Force for the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

This strength of leadership, combined with LUNA’s robust ASL training and mentorship initiatives, uniquely positions us to offer the best ASL interpreting services available.

Quality of Service

Staying in tune with the Deaf and hard of hearing community is a high priority at LUNA. Our interpreters, coordinators, and contract team all have direct experience with, and training on, Deaf culture and ongoing interaction with members of the Deaf and hard of hearing communities.

With strong connections to community-based agencies that also serve Deaf and hard of hearing populations (such as Deaf Community Services, Indiana Chapter of Interpreters for the Deaf, and the Indiana Association of the Deaf) our company receives regular input and collaboration on public events, outsourced accommodations for adaptive needs, and training of interpreting staff. Being directly networked with these organizations, as well as with others across the state, helps us to guarantee the quality of our ASL interpreting services and our success at meeting your needs. We don’t just know how to sign, we know the community we’re signing with.

We Stand Behind Our Work

We adhere ourselves to the highest standards of professionalism. Most of our ASL Interpreters are state certified and many are nationally certified. We highly value our relationships with our clients. The entire LUNA Team stands behind our work each and every day. If ever there is an issue with our ASL interpreting services, we are committed to making it right.

Confidentiality

As interpreters, we’re often involved in confidential communication and we take that responsibility seriously—regardless of spoken, signed, or written communication. Our ASL Interpreting Team is fully compliant with HIPAA rules and follows established procedures for maintaining confidential records and destroying them securely when necessary. Both LUNA Staff and contract interpreters strictly and conscientiously comply with confidentiality agreements for all ASL interpreting assignments.

Don’t just say something. Create understanding.
