LUNA Language Services is proud to partner with the United Way of Central Indiana, and numerous other local agencies, to provide access to educational opportunities for refugee and immigrant children through On My Way Pre-K, a new Indiana state program through the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.
Low-income families with a four-year-old child may be awarded grants through On My Way Pre-K providing access to high-quality Pre-K programs the year prior to starting Kindergarten. The program is currently being piloted in Allen, Jackson, Lake, Marion and Vanderburgh counties. LUNA’s participation includes translating informational fliers in French and Hakha Chin to accompany the Spanish and English applications.
Over 1,800 applications were received for the first phase of the program beginning in January 2015. The initial goal for phase one was 350 children; however, demand was so great that enrollment was increased to 450 children. A more substantial campaign is planned for the fall with hopes of including between 1,600 – 2,000 four-year-olds in the five counties participating.
Additional provider information sessions and media coverage are planned in hopes of continuing to grow the program. For more information, visit On My Way Pre-K’s website or call 1.800.299.1627 to speak with a referral specialist.
