LUNATalks Translation: Machine Translation – Understanding the Pros and Cons

Join us during your lunch break on February 18th to learn more about best practices for using machine translation.

Machine translation tools like Google Translate have become a commonplace workaround “in the field” for language translation for many professionals. But how accurate or trustworthy are tools that use machines to translate language? And when is it appropriate to use these tools versus professional translators? How do you know what you can trust when you can’t check the accuracy of the language?

Join LUNA’s Director of Translation, Una Hartzell-Baird, during your lunch break on Thursday, February 18th for LUNATalks Translation: Machine Translation – Understanding the Pros and Cons.

Learning objectives:

  • understanding how machine translation works and the efficiency capabilities of machine translation tools
  • evaluating how a tool like Google Translate is different than professional machine translation processes (MTPE – Machine Translation Post Editing)
  • assessing when it’s appropriate to use a free tool like Google Translate vs. a professional translation service
