LUNATalks K-12 Interpreting: Assessing Educational Interpreters

LUNATalks K-12 Interpreting: Assessing Educational Interpreters

Join us during your lunch break on September 9th to learn more about assessing educational interpreters.

Decision-makers in school systems rarely have the ASL fluency or interpreter skills necessary to properly assess an educational interpreter’s skill level. In addition to language service support, LUNA Language Services utilizes the vast experiences of our team members to assist our clients with functions like assessing their own interpreters.

With over two decades of ASL interpreting experience and an expertise in developing professional interpreter assessment tools, Director of ASL Services and Education Rebecca Buchan offers school administrators and teachers of the Deaf assistance in assessing the professional skills of educational interpreters.

Aside from a language assessment, during this event Rebecca will outline specific areas one can use to assess the appropriateness of interpreter placement and give interpreters elements of professional development on which to work.

Learning objectives:

  • Interpreting ethics and professionalism guidelines
  • Outlining clear interpreter roles in the classroom as well as during CASE conferences
  • Guidelines for identifying when you have a great interpreter on staff
